The Raising Children Network – producing a national parenting website

The Raising Children Network was appointed to develop and manage a national parenting information website, under the Australian Government’s Stronger Families & Communities “Invest to Grow” initiative.

The Australian Government commissioned the website with $4 million over four years as part of its commitment to ensure every Australian child has the best possible start in life by supporting parents in their most important role.

The Raising Children Network is a consortium comprised of Smart Population Foundation (SPF) Parenting Research Centre (PRC) and Centre for Community Child Health (CCCH), part of the Murdoch Research Institute at Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital.

The Raising Children website has tapped into the collective wisdom of experts and industry bodies from all over Australia and the feedback of parents and practitioners.  The website is accessible at raisingchildren.net.au.

The content for the website is governed by a rigorous quality assurance process as approved by a Scientific Advisory Board: each article is reviewed and approved by two independant experts from a panel of over 100 experts from all over Australia. It covers a broad range of developmental information, tools and resources for pregnancy through school transition, tailored for parents of all different backgrounds and circumstances.

The Raising Children website has become the definitive online parenting resource in Australia.  It gives parents control over valuable information and empowers them to answer their own questions about safety and care in the privacy of their own homes.

The website is quality assured and non-judgmental, instead making the basics and the science truly accessible, engaging parents with informed choice.

The Raising Children Network was launched on 17 May 2006.
